Gossip

Forgive me for all the posts tonight. So much has happened in the past hour my head is spinning. So many thoughts and ideas. One subject is gossip and the pain it causes.

Tonight I received a call from my little sis that our parents were not doing well. Not too long ago my dad had withdrawn from a volunteer position he had been doing. His health is not good, and then after falling and cracking ribs not once, but twice, he was not capable of carrying out the duties that well. He regretfully resigned his position. Partly because of much bickering and gossiping and many not wanting to learn some very important tasks. Anyway, I don't want to go in depth and carry it into a gossip session.

Shortly after many were complaining about my dad resigning, accusing him of being a quieter. Let me tell you a bit about him. My dad is an honest hard working man that would give the shirt off his back to anyone that needed it. He's 74 years old, had stints put in his heart, suffers from high blood pressure and sugar diabetes. He still plugs along, does work for many in the community, doesn't charge what the going rates are for his work, has done a lot of volunteer work for the community and will give anyone who needs it his all.

Now after all the years of doing what he can for them, they are mad at him, pointing their fingers, talking to my mother with all their gossip, bringing her down. She ended up upset, her blood pressure shot up, she became angry with dad, dad became even more upset than he's been, he's looking yellow and very emotional. My little sister just moved out there and now they are spreading rumors about her.

So my point is, gossiping is wrong. Gossiping hurts. When it gets to the point where you are affecting people's health, how far is one willing to go? They must be able to see it. My parents just celebrated their 50th anniversary and will be celebrating their 51st the end of this month. Now they are bickering due to gossipers. Why? What comes of it? Why hurt people with your idle gossip? Why spend your time making it your business of what others are doing, or passing judgment on others for that matter?

If you have time on your hands to talk poorly of others, making a mockery of their lives, making them miserable, then you have time to sit and read the word. I would highly suggest doing that instead. I pray for the souls of those who have nothing better to do. Because someday judgment day will come upon each and everyone of us. Do you think the Lord our God is going to find favor on those that have spent their days filled with tongues that slight.

Proverbs 10:18-22 (NKJV)
18 Whoever hides hatred has lying lips,
And whoever spreads slander is a fool.
19 In the multitude of words sin is not lacking,
But he who restrains his lips is wise.
20 The tongue of the righteous is choice silver;
The heart of the wicked is worth little.
21 The lips of the righteous feed many,
But the fools die for lack of wisdom.
22 The blessing of the Lord makes one rich,
And He adds no sorrow with it.

Message Bible
18 Liars secretly hoard hatred;
fools openly spread slander.
19 The more talk, the less truth;
the wise measure their words.
20 The speech of a good person is worth waiting for;
the blabber of the wicked is worthless.
21 The talk of a good person is rich fare for many;
but chatterboxes die of an empty heart.
22 God's blessings makes life rich;
nothing we do can improve on God.

No matter how we look at it, the Lord does not like loose lips and sly tongues. It does not get us anywhere.

Thankfully my little sister lives close to our parents now and was able to go and get them calmed down. She let them know that she has kept silent and never stepped in, letting them handle it. But she is not about to stand by and let a bunch of busy bodies come between them and possibly put them six feet under. I'm thankful for my loving family willing to take a stand for one another. I pray my parents find peace in the Lord. I'm thankful my sister is filled with the Lord and has a strong passion for Him. Instead of being angry with the citizens doing the hurt, I pray for the Lord to enter them and soften their hearts. I pray for their souls for obviously they do not know what they do. I pray for divine intervention amongst those that do the spiteful things they do. I pray they repent for their wickedness and seek forgiveness and give themselves to the Lord. I pray if they are saved that they think twice about what they are doing, get back in the word and repent, repent, repent. Let not what Christ went through for our sins go in vain.

Note: I do not claim to be sin free by any means. I am going to do a testimony of a wicked life I once led and what has led me to try to keep a clean life now. So when I write articles such as this, it's to remind myself as well. Lord knows I am still a huge work in progress. In fact I was just sitting here discussing with him my stubbornness still at times, but thankfully He's such a loving God, He forgives, hugs and tells us He still loves us. Hmmm, why can't we all be that way? Wouldn't life be grand then?

May you all be void of having the wicked slander your good name. May the Lord protect you from the evil ways of the world, of the flesh. May he place a hedge of protection around each one of you and cover you with the blood of Jesus. God Bless you all!

The Sharp Tongue

God's timing as always is perfect! My hubby sent me this one this morning from Crosswalk.com Daily Heartlight Verse. It starts out with:
Proverbs 17:9
"He who covers over an offense promotes love, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends."

It goes on to talk about we think that it's simple gossip that will do no harm. But that is not the case. When we talk about others, we are actually doing damage. There is no such thing as simple gossip. Taming the tongue is not an easy task for those of us that have gossiped for so many years.

I'll admit, I never thought of it as being damaging when discussing problems and what not. But it extended beyond problems, it took on talking about them other than the problem to be dealt with. And instead of taking it to the Lord, we would complain and "gossip." We never thought of it as gossip.

We think, well it's just between us, it's not going to hurt anyone. Well it does hurt others, as the more we complain about someone, the more damage we do towards them in the listeners eyes. We can end up turning someone away, or changing their attitudes towards them, etc. This is exactly what had happened. It's not fair to the person(s) being discussed as they are not able to defend themselves. Perhaps we are seeing things in a different light than what is really happening, which is not fair either.

When a problem exists, it is best to confront the person or let it go and hand it over to the Lord, and of course, pray!

The following is the thoughts on the verse from Crosswalk:

Thoughts on today's verse:
"It's just a little harmless gossip." The Wise Teacher reminds us that gossip is neither little nor
harmless. Its consequences are huge and its damage horrible. Instead, it is much better to be a peacemaker and an offense-mender.

Thought this was a good little reminder of what we should be watching for.

May God Bless you and protect you always.
Make a ripple and watch it grow and grow.
Remember to P.U.S.H.

God's Promises: Wednesday

Children; Children's Duties; Marriage; Parents Duties; Money; Lust; Jealousy; Sexual Sins; Gossip; and Laziness. Taken from the NKJV.

Children: Isaiah 44:3: "For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, and floods on the dry ground; I will pour My spirit on your descendants, and My blessing on your offspring."
What a lovely promise for our children because of our obedience!

Children's Duties: Deuteronomy 27:16: "Cursed is the one who treats his father or his mother with contempt."
This is why it is important to raise our children up righteously, for this is not what we wish upon our children.

Marriage: 1 Corinthians 7:3: "Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband."
This to me should come natural anyhow, but there are also those stumbles. A stumble does help couples learn about one another and enriches their marriage. But...when one is mean, abusive, whether verbally and/or physically, skips out on their spouse etc., this is very wrong. Love your spouse.

Parent's Duties: Exodus 13:8: "And you shall tell your son in that day, saying, 'This is done because of what the Lord did for me when I came up from Egypt."
Teach your children the word of God when they are young. Let them see what He does for us. Tell them your testimonies so that they may learn from them.

Money: Ecclesiastes 4:6: "Better a handful with quietness than both hands full, together with toil and grasping for the wind."
I can testify to the fact that being without is much better than having much. My parents were not rich by any means. We grew up learning to make do and appreciated what we have. Now days it seems that many have way more than they need, complain that they are bored, or sit and vegetate in front of a TV or computer. They are spoiled. If we make them work for things when they are older, and the younger ones help out to their ability, and get something now and again, they will learn to appreciate life much more and learn some good life values.

Lust: Proverbs 6:25-29: "Do not lust after her beauty in your heart, nor let her allure you with her eyelids. 26 For by means of a harlot a man is reduced to a crust or bread; and an adulteress will prey upon his precious life. 27 Can a man take fire to his bosom and his clothes not be burned? 28 Can one walk on hot coals, and his feet not be seared? 29 So is he who goes on to his neighbor's wife; whoever touches her shall not be innocent."
Need there be anything else said on this subject?

Jealousy: Psalm 37:7: "Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass."
The green head of jealousy subject once again. We are all different for a reason. If the good Lord intended us to be like the Jones' He would have made us that way. So why do we struggle to keep up with the Jones'?

Sexual Sins: 1 Corinthians 7:8-9: "But I say to the unmarried and to the widows: It is good for them if they remain even as I am; 9 but if they cannot exercise self-control, let them marry. For it is better to marry than to urn with passion."
No further comment needed here as well.

Gossip:Proverbs 11:13: "A talebearer reveals secrets, but he who is of a faithful spirit conceals a matter."
Where does gossip get us? Absolutely nowhere. All gossip does is hurt the ones you are gossiping about, and does to you like Pharaoh did to himself. Hardens the heart.

Laziness: Proverbs 13:4: "The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be made rich."
Laziness is actually depressing. Many don't realize it until it's too late. I can testify to this very thing. In fact, I'll do testimonial post on this very subject showing what can happen when you give into sluggardness. Believe me, it's not worth it!

God's Promises: Wednesday

Children; Children's Duties; Marriage; Parents Duties; Money; Lust; Jealousy; Sexual Sins; Gossip; and Laziness. Taken from the CBS version.

Children: Isaiah 54:13: "Then all your children will be taught by the Lord, their prosperity will be great."
Get them in church, in classes of the church, whatever is available for them. Teach them young. Get the Lord in their hearts now, so they grow up in a Christ filled environment. This will make their lives so much richer and fuller as they mature.

Children's Duties: Deuteronomy 27:16: "Cursed is the one who dishonors his father or mother. And all the people will say, 'Amen!"
Teach them now that they need to show respect. Just today while picking up my grandsons at their school, so many kids shoved me around, no excuse me, no holding the door, rather almost knocking me over. I was shocked at how many showed that kind of behavior. Sad. We need to teach the younger generations. It is up to us.
Also, it doesn't hurt to give them small duties and work up to harder tasks as they get older. This will instill good work ethics in them. Show your gratitude as well when they do well. Be builders!

Marriage: Proverbs 5:18-20: "Let your fountain be blessed, and take pleasure in the wife of your youth. 19 A loving doe, a graceful fawn--let her breast always satisfy you; be lost in her love forever. 20 Why, my son, would you be infatuated with a forbidden woman or embrace the breast of a stranger?"
Pretty self explanatory. You can't have your cake and eat it too!

Parent's Duties: Deuteronomy 11:19: "Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."
This is so good. What we present to our children is the molding of what they will become when they mature. Teach them when they are young, talking to them, setting good examples. Show them now, or be regretful when they are older.

Money: James 2:5: "Listen my dear brothers: Didn't God choose the poor in this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that He has promised to those who love Him?"
So what is all the hype about money? I had it put to me in a meaningful way; money is not the root of all evil, it's how the people use that money that is evil. Really made me think, and it makes great sense. Spend wisely, save wisely, give freely!

Lust: Matthew 5:27-28: "You have heard that it was said, Do not commit adultery. 28 But I tell you, everyone who looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart."
This is probably one of the hardest ones to not commit for many. As it is human nature to look and like what they see. But...when ones lusts, (wants, or dreams of) this is not healthy. For many it's a hard habit to break, but is necessary.

Jealousy: James 4:5: "Or do you think it's without reason the Scripture says that the Spirit He has caused to live in us yearns jealousy?"
Rearing that green head of jealousy just makes matters worse. The person feeling the jealousy, ends up hurting even more. There is no point to it. We were all created equally and need to get off our high horses, quit looking down our noses at others and be accepting and loving of others. It's not that hard to do!

Sexual Sins: 1 Corinthians 7:1: "About the things you wrote: 'It is good for a man not to have relations with a woman."
Meaning a woman other than his wife. This keeps the man pure.

Gossip: Proverbs 20:19: "The one who reveals secrets is a constant gossip; avoid someone with a big mouth."
Gossip no matter how we look at it is hurtful, spiteful, and wrong. Tame the tongue!

Laziness: Proverbs 28:19: "The one who works his land will have plenty of food, but whoever chases fantasies will have his fill of poverty."
In other words, just do the job, do it to the best of your ability. Don't be a slacker. The sluggard is the one who pays the price.

God's Promises: Wednesday

Children; Children's Duties; Marriage; Parents Duties; Money; Lust; Jealousy; Sexual Sins; Gossip; and Laziness.

Children: Acts 2:39: "For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call."
Repenting of sins will free our children from the curse of our sins being handed down to our children to the third generation.

Children's Duties: Colossians 3:20: "Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord."
Self explanatory.

Marriage: Proverbs 5:15: "Drink water from your own cistern, and running water from your own well."
In other words, do not go wandering looking for greener grass. It will only get you into trouble.

Parents Duties: Psalm 78:4-7: "We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and His strength and His wonderful works that He has done. 5 For He established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which He commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children; 6 That the generation to come might know them, the children who would be born, that they may arise and declare them to their children, 7 that they may set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep His commandments."

Money: Psalm 37:16: "A little that a righteous man has is better than the riches of many wicked."
Oh so true. Being rich in the Lord is better than having many riches of the world.

Lust: 1 John 2:16-17: "For all that is in the world--the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--is not of the Father but is of the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever."
We do not have to worry if we live by the way of the Lord, rather than the way of the world. The way of the world is corruption, which will vanish and nothing will be left.

Jealousy: James 3:16: "For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there."
Self explanatory.

Sexual Sins: 1 Corinthians 6:18-20: "Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's."
Again, self explanatory.

Gossip: Proverbs 18:8: "The words of a talebearer are like tasty trifles, and they go down into the inmost body."
Gossip is soaked in like a sponge. A sponge carries many germs. Just as being filled with gossip poisons the body. Those that use their tongues to spread gossip are sinning. The old adage, "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words shall never harm me," is not true. Words can cut like a knife. Gossip can knock a person down and ruin them quickly. If you have nothing nice to say, don't say it! Plain and simple. If you have a qualm with a person, talk to them about it, not to someone else, or take it up with the Father. Once releasing your feelings, ask for forgiveness. Forgive the person you had a problem with as well.

Laziness: Romans 12:11: "Not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord."
This is how we are to be. Laziness does not produce anything. Being a sluggard is wasteful.
