God's Promises: Wednesday

Children; Children's Duties; Marriage; Parents Duties; Money; Lust; Jealousy; Sexual Sins; Gossip; and Laziness. Taken from the CBS version.

Children: Isaiah 54:13: "Then all your children will be taught by the Lord, their prosperity will be great."
Get them in church, in classes of the church, whatever is available for them. Teach them young. Get the Lord in their hearts now, so they grow up in a Christ filled environment. This will make their lives so much richer and fuller as they mature.

Children's Duties: Deuteronomy 27:16: "Cursed is the one who dishonors his father or mother. And all the people will say, 'Amen!"
Teach them now that they need to show respect. Just today while picking up my grandsons at their school, so many kids shoved me around, no excuse me, no holding the door, rather almost knocking me over. I was shocked at how many showed that kind of behavior. Sad. We need to teach the younger generations. It is up to us.
Also, it doesn't hurt to give them small duties and work up to harder tasks as they get older. This will instill good work ethics in them. Show your gratitude as well when they do well. Be builders!

Marriage: Proverbs 5:18-20: "Let your fountain be blessed, and take pleasure in the wife of your youth. 19 A loving doe, a graceful fawn--let her breast always satisfy you; be lost in her love forever. 20 Why, my son, would you be infatuated with a forbidden woman or embrace the breast of a stranger?"
Pretty self explanatory. You can't have your cake and eat it too!

Parent's Duties: Deuteronomy 11:19: "Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."
This is so good. What we present to our children is the molding of what they will become when they mature. Teach them when they are young, talking to them, setting good examples. Show them now, or be regretful when they are older.

Money: James 2:5: "Listen my dear brothers: Didn't God choose the poor in this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that He has promised to those who love Him?"
So what is all the hype about money? I had it put to me in a meaningful way; money is not the root of all evil, it's how the people use that money that is evil. Really made me think, and it makes great sense. Spend wisely, save wisely, give freely!

Lust: Matthew 5:27-28: "You have heard that it was said, Do not commit adultery. 28 But I tell you, everyone who looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart."
This is probably one of the hardest ones to not commit for many. As it is human nature to look and like what they see. But...when ones lusts, (wants, or dreams of) this is not healthy. For many it's a hard habit to break, but is necessary.

Jealousy: James 4:5: "Or do you think it's without reason the Scripture says that the Spirit He has caused to live in us yearns jealousy?"
Rearing that green head of jealousy just makes matters worse. The person feeling the jealousy, ends up hurting even more. There is no point to it. We were all created equally and need to get off our high horses, quit looking down our noses at others and be accepting and loving of others. It's not that hard to do!

Sexual Sins: 1 Corinthians 7:1: "About the things you wrote: 'It is good for a man not to have relations with a woman."
Meaning a woman other than his wife. This keeps the man pure.

Gossip: Proverbs 20:19: "The one who reveals secrets is a constant gossip; avoid someone with a big mouth."
Gossip no matter how we look at it is hurtful, spiteful, and wrong. Tame the tongue!

Laziness: Proverbs 28:19: "The one who works his land will have plenty of food, but whoever chases fantasies will have his fill of poverty."
In other words, just do the job, do it to the best of your ability. Don't be a slacker. The sluggard is the one who pays the price.
