We Are Blessed!

Washing Clothes Recipe
Never thought of a "washer" in this light before..what a blessing!'
Washing Clothes Recipe' -- imagine having a recipe for this ! ! !

Years ago an Alabama grandmother gave the new bride the following recipe:
This is an exact copy as written and found in an old scrapbook -
with spelling errors and all.
WASHING CLOTHES
Build fire in backyard to heat kettle of rain water.
Set tubs so smoke wont blow in eyes if wind is pert.
Shave one hole cake of lie soap in boilin water.
Sort things, make 3 piles1 pile white,1 pile colored,1 pile work britches and rags.

To make starch, stir flour in cool water to smooth, then thin down with boiling water.
Take white things, rub dirty spots on board, scrub hard, and boil,
then rub colored don't boil just wrench and starch.
Take things out of kettle with broom stick handle, then wrench, and starch.
Hang old rags on fence.
Spread tea towels on grass.
Pore wrench water in flower bed.
Scrub porch with hot soapy water.
Turn tubs upside down.
Go put on clean dress, smooth hair with hair combs.
Brew cup of tea, sit and rock a spell and count your blessings.
================================================
Paste this over your washer and dryer
Next time when you think things are bleak,
read it again, kiss that washing machine and dryer, and give thanks.
First thing each morning you should run and hug your washer and dryer, also your toilet
---those two-holers used to get mighty cold!
For you non-southerners -wrench means rinse. ;)
Couldn't resist sharing this one. Really makes one realize just how lucky we are. There are people that still wash their clothes this way too. I remember my mother doing this very thing. What a pain in the rear it was too.

When my washer was sent for repairs, I had to hand wash the clothes for a week. I can't imagine doing this every day of my life. I do thank God for little luxuries like having a washer.

What blessed people we are indeed. I have used on of those washing machines before. We did it just to be able to say that we did. It was my grandmothers. She used it because she had to. When they talk about the good old days, I think...what kind of torture are you in to? I love my modern appliances.

Too many blessings to count! This is a great reminder for us to be grateful even for the littlest things, others may not have. Thank you for sharing. God bless. Have a good weekend sister!

It is funny how we talk of the good old days and then wonder what was good about them. There are good and bad times in every era. But yes, we are a spoiled society. I often wonder if that is why there is more problems with so much disrespect? Hmmm ;)Thanks for the great comments!!!

How blessed we are! I remember having to wash Daniels cloth diapers out by hand when hunny hubby lost his job, I remember sitting and crying from my hands being raw. Asking my husband, how the women from the olden days did it and DIDN'T complain. We'd laugh and say, they didn't know better. We're spoiled now! I love ya Tammy!

LOVED THE POST! Your amazing!

I LOVED THAT! We have my husband's granny's old wringer washer.

I remember when I was a little girl watching and helping my grandmother and my own mother (we had a wringer washer until I was almost 5) with the laundry.

I am THANKFUL for technology...it does all but them them in the washer for you!

I am thankful for my washer and dryer.

Cute post and it is so true that we take things like this for granted. Now I will look at washboards differently.
