God's Promises: Wednesday

Children; Children's Duties; Marriage; Parents Duties; Money; Lust; Jealousy; Sexual Sins; Gossip; and Laziness.

Children: Acts 2:39: "For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call."
Repenting of sins will free our children from the curse of our sins being handed down to our children to the third generation.

Children's Duties: Colossians 3:20: "Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord."
Self explanatory.

Marriage: Proverbs 5:15: "Drink water from your own cistern, and running water from your own well."
In other words, do not go wandering looking for greener grass. It will only get you into trouble.

Parents Duties: Psalm 78:4-7: "We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and His strength and His wonderful works that He has done. 5 For He established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which He commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children; 6 That the generation to come might know them, the children who would be born, that they may arise and declare them to their children, 7 that they may set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep His commandments."

Money: Psalm 37:16: "A little that a righteous man has is better than the riches of many wicked."
Oh so true. Being rich in the Lord is better than having many riches of the world.

Lust: 1 John 2:16-17: "For all that is in the world--the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--is not of the Father but is of the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever."
We do not have to worry if we live by the way of the Lord, rather than the way of the world. The way of the world is corruption, which will vanish and nothing will be left.

Jealousy: James 3:16: "For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there."
Self explanatory.

Sexual Sins: 1 Corinthians 6:18-20: "Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's."
Again, self explanatory.

Gossip: Proverbs 18:8: "The words of a talebearer are like tasty trifles, and they go down into the inmost body."
Gossip is soaked in like a sponge. A sponge carries many germs. Just as being filled with gossip poisons the body. Those that use their tongues to spread gossip are sinning. The old adage, "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words shall never harm me," is not true. Words can cut like a knife. Gossip can knock a person down and ruin them quickly. If you have nothing nice to say, don't say it! Plain and simple. If you have a qualm with a person, talk to them about it, not to someone else, or take it up with the Father. Once releasing your feelings, ask for forgiveness. Forgive the person you had a problem with as well.

Laziness: Romans 12:11: "Not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord."
This is how we are to be. Laziness does not produce anything. Being a sluggard is wasteful.

I like your explaination or Act 2:39, I had never thought about our repenting freeing our children of it being passed to the third generation.

Thanks for that insight.

God Bless!

You're very welcome Sherri. Our Pastor has spoken of this very thing. We must clear our own clutter in our lives in order for our children, their children, and their children's children to live a good life as well.

Blessings to you!
